Instrumental Music & Music Events

Instrumental Music

Children from Years 5 to 7 may like to join our woodwind, brass and percussion tuition groups and concert band which have lessons weekly. Recruitment for this group occurs in Term 4 each year.  There is an Instrument hire fee of $75 per year for those students in the program who use school instruments and $25 per year if the student has their own instrument. Some school instruments are available for loan for the first year, after which the student is to provide their own instrument.

String lessons are available free of charge for children from Year 3 who wish to play the violin, viola or cello and Year 5 onwards for the double bass.

The children start performing in the school's string ensemble and concert band when they are in their second year of tuition or at the discretion of the Instrumental teacher

Please ask at the office for an application form if you wish your child to participate in the music program.

Triple M (Mayfield Music Maestros)

Each Thursday the choir meet at lunch break to learn cool new songs with Mrs. Metcalfe.

The choir have many opportunities to perform at the ‘Afternoons of Music’ held throughout the year.

Afternoon of Music

At the end of each term Mrs Metcalfe coordinates an Afternoon of Music to showcase the musical tallents of the school students.  Our families are invited to come along and enjoy an afternoon of listening to and looking at some of the musical things that are happening at Mayfield SS. Every student will be included in an item and will perform at the Afternoon of Music on the last day of the term.

Each class group will perform a song or dance from their weekly Music lessons with Mrs Metcalfe. Triple M (our choir) will be performing and the String Ensemble will also perform.

There will also be an opportunity for students who are interested in performing a solo - these will be students who have private instrumental, vocal or dance lessons (either here at school or elsewhere).

Hope to see you all there to celebrate the end of term with an Afternoon of Music!
