Building Community: THE MAYFIELD WAY! – “Four weeks of community engagement”
DATE CLAIMER: THURSDAY 29 OCTOBER: COMMUNITY BREAKFAST 8am at the hall.
At the beginning of this year, we identified School-Community Partnerships as an area for focused attention, as we seek further ways to enhance student learning and wellbeing. As parents and families you are integral members of the school community and partners the education of your children.
Our approach to improving these partnerships this year has been to examine the ways that we communicate with you, providing more detailed information (through the website, school newsletters, parent reps etc) about school processes and the ways we make certain decisions, and also, about curriculum issues and the way we work with our excellent team of teachers to further develop their skills and capabilities. This has been one small step towards the improvement in this area that we are seeking. We know that there is much more that can be done.
One of our parents, Karen Shapcott, is currently completing University studies with a specific focus on the area of Community Engagement, and has very kindly offered to help us in this area.
During this week 4 – 8 this term, Karen will be conducting, on our behalf, a project which aims to develop a school policy and an action plan which will help us further develop our School-Community Partnerships in 2016. During the 4 weeks of the project Karen will be collecting information from you as members of our parent community. At the same time we will also be talking to and collecting information from our staff and our students. All of this information will inform our policy and action plan.
To that end, we encourage you to set aside Thursday 29th October. While you are enjoying your sausage sizzle, Karen will explain what she will be doing over the following weeks. Your understanding of the project and why we are doing this is vital! We cannot further develop our school-community partnerships policy and action plan without your input. I look forward to seeing lots of you on Thursday 29th October.
