Great Results Guarantee Snapshot Report
2014 Great Results Guarantee strategies focused on building teacher capacity through professional development, coaching, mentoring and developing collaborative practices. We have succeeded in developing a consistent approach to the teaching of reading through the development and refinement of the Explicit Instruction Framework. In 2014, 100% of students in Year 3 achieved above the National Minimum Benchmark for reading. End of 2014 data shows that 50% of prep student have achieved their aspirational reading targets. It is expected that these students when they reach Year 3 will achieve in the Upper 2 bands of NAPLAN. Similarly, Year 1 and Year 2 students have achieved their aspirational targets with 64% and 80% respectively, achieving the benchmarks which were set at the outset of 2014.
Spelling improvement has been an outstanding achievement at Mayfield in 2014, with all year levels exceeding their benchmarks in 2014 as a result of a school wide focus on explicit teaching of spelling, which was supported by GRG strategy.
The consistent approach to pedagogy has shown a difference to the progress of lower achieving students with 10% of prep students achieving at or below the “at risk” minimum benchmark at the end of 2014. In 2015, a small group, direct instruction intervention program will be introduced to give small group of students in Year 1 and Year 2 a learning “boost”. 2014 Year 3 results did in fact show that 100% of students were above National Minimum Standard, and it is expected that this intensive focus on underachieving students will result in a continuation of this trend as students who will benefit from these programs progress through NAPLAN in 2016 and 2017.
In 2015, the school focus will extend to Numeracy. Improved results are expected by 2016.
