The Mayfield Sakura Group is a dedicated group of families who tirelessly work together to organise an annual Japanese Exchange program with our sister school – nishi-Kanazawa Elementary/Junior High School (Yokohama, Japan), and our sister group – The Mimosa Group.
We share a common interest in Japanese culture and believe that the exchange is a beneficial experience that enhances children’s education, confidence and connection with our worldwide community. We invite the Mayfield State School community to be a part of the Mayfield Sakura Group.
This Friday we welcome 22 members (4 Adults, 16 Children) of The Mimosa Group to our school. The children are aged between 10 & 12. They will spend 2 weeks with us here in Brisbane. It is an amazing adventure for all. Please help us make them feel welcome and say G'day.
On Monday 29/7/13 @ 9am we will be hosting a parade to welcome our guests to our school. It is fun for all the children and adults alike. The Mimosa Group will perform for the Mayfield community and introduce themselves to us. We would love everyone to attend.
Throughout their two weeks with us they will spend quite a few days at school and will join in classroom activities with the Mayfield students. Some of these activities will be, Aussie food tasting, dot painting and tie dying.
On Tuesday 6/8/13, The Mimosa Group will put on a Japanese Festival for all Mayfield Students. It will be a fun day for all the kids.
On Thursday 8/8/13 @ 9am we will be hosting a Farewell Parade for The Mimosa Group to say Sayonara. The Mayfield School Choir will perform on this day. Again you are all invited to come along.
We have a very busy few weeks ahead of us and we cannot wait. If you would like any further information about the exchange process, please do not hesitate to make contact.
