The Sakura group have had a wonderful time in Yokohama over the school holidays. When we were in Yokohama we had some day trips to Tokyo to see Tokyo Disneyland, the Pokémon centre and up the Sky Tree a tower that is 635m high and the viewing platform is 450m high. The kids loved being that high in the sky.
We spent some days at the elementary school and a day at the junior high school. Some of the activities were Science, Art, Japanese Calligraphy classes and some English lessons where the kids had a great time talking about their Australian lives. We taught the students how to play Cricket and the principle how to crack the stock whip which is one of this year’s school gifts.
At break times we would be meet with many smiling faces from the school students coming to say hello and get a business card.
We travelled to Kyoto on the Shinkansen (The Bullet Train) reaching up to 270 km/h in comfort.
In Kyoto we saw some amazing sights. The Golden and Kiyomizu-dera temple. We also went to the Kyoto Studio Park like our Movie World but we could meet and we all became NINJA’s for a day.
The Japanese students loved our performance which we did at the welcome/farewell party’s and school parades. It was such a wonderful time for the kids in Japan and have a lot of new lifelong friends and a new view about the wonderful world out there. In 2015 we will have the Japanese inbound group which we will need families to be their Australian families.
