Attendance

Regular attendance at school is necessary to ensure that continuous progress is maintained. Research is very clear that there is a direct link between patterns of attendance and lateness negatively affecting student outcomes. 'Every Day Counts', is a state-wide initiative that aims to assist student attendance at school through a shared commitment by students. Parents, caregivers, schools and the community. To do this 'Every Day Counts' promotes four key messages:

  1. All children should be enrolled at school and attend on every school day.
  2. Schools monitor, communicate and implement strategies to improve regular school attendance.
  3. Truanting can place a student in unsafe situations and impact on their future employability and life choices.
  4. Attendance at school is the responsibility of everyone in the community.

Absences and early/late arrivals

At Mayfield State School we align with Education Queensland's 'Same Day Notification' policy with absences. When your child is absent from school it is essential that the office is notified prior to 9.00am on the day or before if possible. The best way to do this is through the QParents app. The school also absence line to leave a message with the child's name, class and reason for absence.

This ensures the safety of your child and that the rolls are marked with the correct absence codes. An SMS notification system assists with ensuring that all students' absences are accounted for every day.

We ask for parents' co-operation in arranging any appointments (e.g. medical, dental etc.) out of school hours and arrange holidays for the set holiday periods. At times we recognise that this is unavoidable. On these rare occasions please ensure that your child is signed in or out at the office. This is an essential measure in our Work Place Health and Safety policy for Fire and Evacuation.
