Classroom Music

All children from Prep - Year 6 receive a 30 minute Music Lesson at Mayfield State School every week. Music Lessons are held in the Music Room with Mrs Metcalfe.

Prep - Year 2 Music Lessons include: singing, dancing, moving to Music, beat keeping, rhythmic clapping, instrument playing, Music making, Music composing, Music responding & Music listening, as well as lots of other fun Musical games & activities. We focus on the enjoyment of Music as well as learning how to sing & play Music together with others.

Year 3 - Year 6 Music Lessons include: all of the above things at a higher level, as well as learning to read, write & play Music that is written on the Music staff using Music notation. These students also learn how to play the recorder. The recorder is a relatively cheap woodwind Musical instrument.

Triple M (Mayfield Music Maestros):

Triple M is the name of our Mayfield State School choir.

Every week, the choir meets during their lunch break to learn exciting new songs with Mrs Metcalfe.

Triple M have many opportunities to perform during the school year - at our 'Afternoons of Music', Music Count Us In, Anzac Day & Remembrance Day.

Triple M is for interested boys & girls who like to sing in Year 3 - Year 6.

It is free of charge.

Instrumental Music:

Children from Year 4 - Year 6 can apply to join our Woodwind, Brass and Percussion groups - flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, euphonium & percussion instruments. They have 30minute lessons in the Music Room every week. Recruitment occurs in Term 4 each year.  There is an Instrument hire fee of $100 per year for those students in the program who hire school instruments and a $25 fee per year if the student has their own instrument. Some school instruments are available for loan for the first year, after which the student is expected to provide their own instrument.

Children from Year 3 – Year 6 can apply to join our String groups - violin, viola, cello & double bass instruments.  There is an Instrument hire fee of $100 per year for those students in the program who hire school instruments and a $25 fee per year if the student has their own instrument. Some school instruments are available for loan for the first year, after which the student is expected to provide their own instrument.

The children start performing in the school's string ensemble or concert band when they are in their second year of tuition or at the discretion of their Instrumental Music teacher.

Information about applying for either of these Instrumental Music programs will be sent home to interested students in Term 4. There will also be information in the school newsletter during Term 4.

Afternoon of Music:

At the end of each semester, Mrs Metcalfe coordinates an "Afternoon of Music" to showcase the musical talents of the extra-curricular Music students from Mayfield State School.  All students & parents are invited to come along and enjoy an afternoon of Music, to listen to and look at some of the wonderful things that the Musical students of Mayfield have been learning during the semester.

We usually have performances from Mrs Metcalfe's Triple M choir, Miss Heratage's Strings & Mr Stockdale's Band. Performances will be advertised in the school newsletter & on the school calendar.

Mayfield School Song:

Xx X xx X xx XXX

Tucked away from the traffic and away from the crowds
Is a school yard full of busy happy sounds.
It's the Mayfield School (and we've even got a pool)
In the North Carina District of Brisbane.
Xx X xx X xx XXX

We 'reach for the sky', and we always have a try
And it's Go! Go! Go! …. We like to know
That we're free, free, free and we're working hard to be,
The best of our best at Mayfield.

We 'reach for the sky' as we raise our banners high
And it's Go! Go! Go! …. We like to know
That we're free, free, free and we're working hard to be,
The best of our best at Mayfield.
The best of our best at Mayfield.
The best of our best at MAYFIELD.
