to Prep at Mayfield
Starting school can be a very exciting time
but it can also be a little bit stressful. At Mayfield State School we believe
the process of transitioning to prep needs to occur over time. It needs to
begin well before children start school and extend to the point where children
and families feel a sense of belonging at the school.
Our Transition Program at Mayfield establishes
positive relationships between the children, parents and educators. We want
every family to feel connected to all of our staff and school community. By
purposefully fostering connections between schools, kindergartens, other
prior-to-school educators, families and community members, we are able to build
open communication and trust and are best able to be ready for your child.
Parent information Session & Open classroom afternoon
As a part of our Transition to Prep, we would like to invite both you and your child to attend a Parent Information Session followed by an Open Afternoon in the prep classrooms.
Your child will experience life in prep and participate in age appropriate learning activities. They will also be able to meet current prep students, teachers and principal.
Parents will also have the opportunity to visit a different prep room and observe a prep class. This will enable parents to see what a regular day at school will be like for their prep child.
RSVP: Please contact the office on Ph. 07 3843 7333 or
email: firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know if you will be attending.

What can I do @ home
During this morning our students from years prep to 2 are
involved in a variety of hands-on and fun activities to celebrate being ‘under
8’. Our playgroup, pre-prep and their carers students are invited to take part
in these fun activities as well. This is a great way for students to not only
become familiar with the school, but to also meet
some current students and establish some friendships. Check out or videos and activity for online Under 8s Day 2020.

Enrolment Meet & Greet.
These are informal meetings that take place in August, before we
create classes for 2021. During
these interviews the pre-prep students will spend time with an early years
teacher and parents will have a one-on-one interview with the principal or
deputy principal. These interviews are a very important way for us to make sure
we can support your child’s needs when we are placing students in class groupings.
Currently our plans are to hold these Meet & Greet Sessions will be held during Term 3
Booking information will be emailed out to all families who have returned their enrolment documents.
Our final transition activity for the year is our Transition Day.
On this day all classes in the school spend the morning transitioning to their
class for next year.
We invite our 2021 preppies to come to school, see their classroom, meet prep teachers, play some games and make new friends!
This is a great opportunity for your child to become more familiar with the school environment and feel supported for the start of next year.
While the pre preppies are in their classroom parents are encouraged to go and get a coffee and pick up their child at the end Transition Day will take placein December 2021 Future Preps 9.15am - 10.45am
As a school we believe it is essential for us
to have strong relationships with our kindergartens and pre-prep providers. Throughout
the year we regularly meet for events where we can learn from each other and share
important information about our programs and students. We hope you can
participate in our Transition Program and look forward to getting to know your
family this year.
