Transitioning
to Prep at Mayfield
As a school we believe the transition between kindergarten and formal schooling should be as seamless as possible. To do this authentically we believe placing additional time, emphasis and resourcing on our transition events and talking with your child’s kindy educator will be more successful to help us make the right choices for class placements for your child. As a result, we have made the decision to not run interviews with parents this year. Instead, we will carefully review the information you provide in your prep questionnaire.
We have created a comprehensive transitions plan and believe the community events, information sessions, your information provided and the upcoming kindy visits to be invaluable in connecting different contexts to deeply understand our future students and support them in the best way possible at Mayfield State School.
Moving forward, successful families will receive an acceptance letter by early term 4 2024. This will include instructions on accepting your enrolment at Mayfield SS, a survey for you to fill in about your child and information about starting prep in 2025.
Please don’t hesitate to get in contact with the school if you have any questions regarding the above information.
Our Transition Program at Mayfield establishes positive relationships between the children, parents and educators. We want every family to feel connected to all of our staff and school community. By purposefully fostering connections between schools, kindergartens, other prior-to-school educators, families and community members, we are able to build open communication and trust and are best able to be ready for your child.

Under 8s Morning - Friday 7th June 2024
During this morning our students from years prep to 2 are
involved in a variety of hands-on and fun activities to celebrate being ‘under
8’. Our pre-prep children and their carers students are invited to take part
in these fun activities as well. This is a great way for students to not only
become familiar with the school, but to also meet
some current students and establish some friendships.

Transition
Day.
Our final transition activity for the year is our Transition Day.
On this day all classes in the school spend the morning transitioning to their
class for next year.
We invite our 2025 preppies to come to school, see their classroom, meet prep teachers, play some games and make new friends!
This is a great opportunity for your child to become more familiar with the school environment and feel supported for the start of next year.
While the pre preppies are in their classroom parents are encouraged to go and get a coffee and pick up their child at the end Transition Day will take place on Monday 02nd December 2024 Future Preps 9.30am - 10.45am
As a school we believe it is essential for us
to have strong relationships with our kindergartens and pre-prep providers. Throughout
the year we regularly meet for events where we can learn from each other and share
important information about our programs and students. We hope you can
participate in our Transition Program and look forward to getting to know your
family this year.
