School food program

School food programs are becoming a regular feature of many schools. They help to improve student health and learning outcomes, socialisation and encourage increased attendance and performance.

Healthy eating, along with physical activity, is essential in maintaining good health and wellbeing and can improve behaviours critical to educational success and participation at school.

Eating breakfast and lunch is important for:

  • meeting a child's daily nutrient needs (including vitamins and minerals) for healthy growth and development
  • improving the child's concentration and attention span, making them ready to learn
  • reducing hunger and fatigue which may improve behaviour and mood.

Chappy Breakfast on Monday morning is part of the school food program at Mayfield State school.  We also provide fresh fruit and vegetables for students who need a snack for munch and crunch time at school as well as lunches for students if needed.
